WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TUTORIAL?

The purpose of this tutorial is to show IUSD students how to use the Immersive Reader tool in Nearpod. The tool will help you with reading comprehension while using Nearpod. The Immersive Reader tool can be used for the following tutorial Nearpod activities:

• Open Ended Question
• Quiz
• Poll
• Draw-It
• Matching Pairs
• Nearpod created slides
• Activities (Multiple Choice & Open Ended Question) within Nearpod's Interactive Video

Note: You will have to make these changes each time you select this feature. The changes do not save.
 

Step 1: When you are logged into a Nearpod Session (whole class or student paced) 

• When you participate in a Nearpod session, look for the book icon on the Nearpod Activity. See the example below. 

Step 2:  Click on the Book Icon

• Once the Nearpod activity/slide is open click on the Book Icon to open the Immersive Reader tool. This will change the way the page looks.

1. The Play button - Press this button to have the Nearpod read the slide to you.
2. The Audio Settings - Click on this button to adjust the speed of the voice. You can also select a male or female voice.
3. Font Size - Click here to adjust the font size of the text on the page. 
4. Grammar Menu - Click here to highlight the different parts of grammar on the page. 
5. Reading Preferences Menu - Click here to adjust language preferences, line focus and picture dictionary. 

Step 3: Immersive Reader Features Information

• On the drop down menu, click on the Manage Nearpod Account link. 

Feature	Function
Play Button -Press this button to have the Nearpod read the slide to you.
Audio Settings - Click on this button to adjust the speed of the voice. You can also select a male or female voice.    Turtle - Slow Down    Rabbit - Speed Up
Font Size -Click here to adjust the font size of the text on the page.    Adjust the Size of the text    Increase the spacing    Choose a preferred font    Choose a theme for the font on the page
Grammar Menu -Click here to highlight the different parts of grammar on the page.    You can toggle these off and on for the page you're on.
Reading Preferences Menu - Click here to adjust language preferences, line focus and picture dictionary.    Click on the drop down menu to choose a preferred language    By Word  - Toggle this option to see the translated word when you click on it on the page.    Document Option - Toggle this on to have the page translated into your preferred language.

Step 4: Click Play 

• Once you have updated your Immersive Reader settings on this page. Click play to see and hear those changes. 

Step 5: Immersive Reader Reminders

• This feature will only work for selected Activities and Pages in Nearpod.
