WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TUTORIAL?
The purpose of this tutorial is to show students and staff how to access Encyclopedia Britannica online through their Canvas course and save resources to their “My Britannica” account in resource packs. Encyclopedia Britannica is still accessible at iusd.org/eb when the user is on the district network but the access is as a generic user without the ability to save to the resource packs created through the Canvas login.
Step 1: Log in to your Canvas course
The link to Encyclopedia Britannica called Britannica School is visible in the left navigation bar.
Step 2: My Content
Users can search and save results to "My Content".
Step 3: Search by keyword or subject
In the search bar, type in a term (e.g. dolphins) and click on the magnifying glass.
Step 4: Saving results
To save the results to My Britannica, click on the star next to the article, image, or video title to add it to your favorites. Save the resource and create a "resource pack" by name. In the image below, the title of the resource pack is "dolphins" (red arrow). Click on the "X" (orange arrow) to continue searching.
Step 5: Accessing Resource Pack
To view a resource pack, click on the "My Content" link on the top right. Then click on the name of the resource pack in the left navigation bar to open the pack.
Users can also share the resource pack by generating a share link by clicking on the "Share Pack" (red arrow below):
