WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TUTORIAL?

This tutorial will show users how to access the ComicsPlus Database through MackinVia when logging in through the URL. Users access a collection that is assigned to their grade band, either elementary, middle or high school. Since this is a database, there are unlimited numbers of copies of each comic book or graphic novel. The collections include popular fiction and non-fiction as well. 

Step 1: Login to MackinVia.

Go to https://iusd.mackinvia.com (or use the MackinVia link in your IUSD bookmark folder)and enter your district Google username. Click next. 

Enter your district password and then click “Next”. 

Note that students can also access MackinVia through their Canvas course. 

Step 2: Navigate to the Comics Plus database.

On the MackinVia home page, you will see available resources in the left navigation bar. On the Homepage, you will see the “Featured Group: ComicsPlus”  and see the tile (red arrow). 

Step 3: Open the ComicsPlus database. 

As you hover over the tile, you will see the option to “Open Now”. Click on that button.  

Step 4: Find a comic book or graphic novel.

Search by title or series in the search box or browse by category or publisher. You can also click on the names of the featured series at the bottom of the page. 

You can increase the number of results by changing the “view” option to a larger number. 

As you mouse over a book cover, you will see two buttons.  To find out more about a title, choose the “View” option. If you are ready to read that title, click on the “Read now” button. 

Step 5: Navigation tools

When you open a book to read, you will see this pop-up reminder of how to move from page to page using a keyboard. Close this reminder by clicking on the red “X” in the upper right corner. 

Step 6: Navigating with a mouse or touch screen

If you click/tap on the page, you can hide or unhide the options in the top left corner of the window.

• You can choose to view 1 page or two pages at a time and use the magnifying glass +/- to enlarge/shrink the page. (red box)
• You can click/tap the page navigation band at the bottom to skip ahead or use the chevron arrow to the right or left side of the page to advance or go back.
• To close the book, use the “X” to the top right corner (pink circle).
