WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TUTORIAL?
You can create videos or audios in the Rich Content Editor in an Assignment or Discussions. You can record media for any length of time, but shorter video recordings are recommended.
**Canvas videos also support caption files. Once you record and save your video, learn how to add captions to a video.
Step 1: Navigate to your Discussion or Assignment
- Navigate to Canvas and select your course from your Dashboard. Open the discussion and click Reply to open the Rich Content Editor. If you are in an assignment, the rich content editor will appear as soon as you click into the assignment.
- Click the Media icon from the toolbar.
- Select Upload/Record Media
Step 2: Record Media
- The Upload Media window will appear. Click the Record tab.
- After selecting Record, you should see a pop-up from Canvas asking for permission to access your Camera and microphone. Select Allow.
Step 3: Select Video and Audio Option
- If your computer or Chromebook has a webcam, Canvas will select your default camera automatically. However, if you have multiple webcams, you can select your webcam by clicking the Webcam button.
- Canvas will also select your default microphone. However, if you have multiple microphones, you can select your preferred microphone by clicking the Mic button.
Step 4: Start and Stop Recording
- To begin recording, select Start Recording. You can record media for any length of time, but shorter video recordings are recommended.
- The time will show in the lower right corner.
- The volume level of your recording will continuously update as you record as a bar.
- To stop recording, click Finish.
- To delete your video and start over, click Start Over.
Step 5: Review Recording
- To review your video, click the Play icon.
- Click the text field under File name and enter a title for your video.
- To re-record your video, click Start Over.
- If you are happy with your video, click Save Media.
*Note: Long videos may take some time to save. Please do not leave the page until your video has been saved.
Step 6: View and Submit
- You will see your video inserted into the Rich Content Editor.
- Click Post Reply to submit your video to your discussion or Submit to submit your assignment.
