WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESOURCE GUIDE?
Several features in Canvas support a Rich Content Editor, including Assignments, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes. You can type text and you can copy and paste text from other sources into the Rich Content Editor. The Rich Content Editor also includes several formatting tools that allow you to modify your text.

Section 1: Rich Content Editors' Top Menu Options |
The Rich Content Editor's Top Menu Options include the following: Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, and Table
- Edit: access editing tools such as cut, copy, paste, paste as text, and select all
- View: expand to Fullscreen or access the HTML Editor
- Format: Access text formatting options as well as menus to change font style, font size, and text alignment.
- Tools: View word count and access available apps such as Google Drive
- Table: Tools in this menu allow you to create a table,and edit by cell, row and column.

Open the Rich Content Editor using one of the Canvas features which support the Editor.
- Type the information beginning where the cursor is OR
- Paste the text you copied into the Rich Content Editor

Change Font:
- To change the font within Rich Content Editor, click on the Format menu
- Scroll down and select Fonts
- From the sidebar menu that appears, choose your font style

Remove Text Formatting:
- If you would like to remove or change the text formatting, select the pasted text.
- Click on Format from the drop down menu, scroll down and select Clear formatting

Align Text:
- To align text, place the cursor in front of the text you wish to align.
- Click on the three ellipses at the end of the toolbar
- You can set the position of the text on the page by selecting the Alignment icon
- Select the Left, Center, and Right Alignment tools
- You can Indent the text using the Indent tool.

Create a Bulleted or Numbered List and View:
- Select the text you wish to include in your list.
- Click the Bulleted List icon to view list options.
- Click the Numbered List icon to make a numbered list.

Change Font Size:
- Select the text you wish to modify
- Click the Font Size drop-down menu to change the text font size. You can choose from 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, 24, or 36 sized fonts.

Change Text Style:
- Select the text you wish to modify, and
- Click the Paragraph drop-down menu to change the text style. You can choose from paragraph, heading 2, heading 3, or heading 4, or preformatted styles.

Single Space Text:
- To create single spacing in the Rich Content Editor, press the shift and return keys (on a Mac) or shift and Enter keys (on a PC). This will create a line break instead of a paragraph break.

Superscript and Subscript Text:
- Select the text you wish to modify
- Click the Superscript or Subscript buttons in the toolbar.

Save Changes:

Click the SAVE button or the Save & Publish button.

**Note: When using the Rich Content Editor in Assignments, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes, you have the option to "Save". When using the Rich Content Editor in the Discussions pages, the Save button may appear as "Post Reply".
