WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TUTORIAL?
This tutorial will show users how to set up a project in NoodleTools, and then create a citation for a source. Anytime a writer is using someone else’s words (for example, a quote or another writer’s ideas), images, videos, music/audio files, or research for their own research paper, the writer needs to give credit or acknowledge the other person’s work by creating a citation for their list of sources or for their bibliography.
Step 1: Create new project
Once logged in, you will be in the “Project” part of the dashboard (green box) and will click on the option to “ + New Project” (red box).
To set up a new project, choose a Project title (best practice is to add your name to the project to distinguish it from a similar project in the same class), citation style, and the citation level and then click “Submit”.
Step 2: Create citation
To create a citation, in the Dashboard view, open your project and in “Sources” (pink box) view, Click the “+New Source” (red box).
Look at your source, for example a book, and choose the box from the view below that best describes your source. In this instance, “Print or in-hand” describes a book.
Clicking on this “Print or in-hand” will open further options, as below, and in this instance, we will choose “book” as the source.
Step 3: Option to learn more about the format choice
Once you have chosen the format of your source, you will see an option to find out more about that type of source. If you are uncertain about the format of your source, for example is the book an anthology or reference book? , or if you are sure about the type of source you are citing, you can open a quick guide by choosing the play arrow (red box and arrow). Alternatively, if you are sure of your source format, click on “Continue” (pink arrow) to go to the template.
Step 4: Complete the details in the template
Once you have chosen the format, you will be presented with a template to complete and then save to create the citation. (Red arrow)
Note that if you wish to create a citation for a print book that has an ISBN, you can search by ISBN to find the citation (pink box) then import the citation. If you find the citation in this manner, you should still check the information for accuracy.
