Update your Chromebook's operating system
Your Chromebook automatically checks for and downloads updates when connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Finish an update
When your Chromebook needs a software update, you’ll find one of the following notifications:
- Blue: An update is recommended.

Orange: An update is required.
- Select Restart to update.
- Your Chromebook will restart and update.
Manually check for updates
Step 1 - Click on the time in the lower right.
Step 2 - Select Settings.
Step 3 - At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
Step 4 - Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll see which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook is using.
Select Check for Updates
Step 5 - If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will download automatically. After your download is done, select Restart to finish the update.
